Travelling in Turkey
Turkey is a beautiful country situated directly between the European
and Asian continents, and is widely considered to be both a
geographical and cultural meeting point between East and West. Shaped
by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and movements in the earth`s
tectonic plates, the Turkish landscape is hugely diverse, compromising
mountainous regions in the east, and sundrenched sandy beaches in the
south. The interesting cultural history, beautiful landscape and long,
hot summers make Turkey the perfect place to enjoy a summer holiday or
even a longer trip, and both tourists and more dedicated travellers are
flocking to Turkey to experience all the joys it has to offer.
Culturally speaking, Western visitors to the country will notice many
differences between Turkey and their home country. Turkey works to a
much slower pace to Western Europe, and the generally relaxed and good
humoured attitude that permeates the country makes it an ideal
destination for those wishing to sit back and unwind in the sunshine
for a couple of weeks. The Turkish people are also well-known for their
welcoming and friendly approach toward visitors to their country, and
are generally very open to striking up conversation with foreign
visitors. This makes it easy to gain a truer insight into the country`s
fascinating culture and history than can be provided by even the best
guide books.
Not only does Turkey offer visitors beautiful weather and endlessly
friendly locals, there is also a wealth of things to see and do whilst
visiting the country. For those who like their holidays action-packed,
Turkey offers a great deal. If hiking is your thing then Cappadocia and
the Kackar Mountains near the Black Sea are particularly good places to
strap on your walking boots. If you`re a truly dedicated walker, you
might try The Lycian Way. This is a long distance walk that takes up to
a month, though will allow you to enjoy some of the most beautiful
scenery that Turkey has to offer. Mountian biking is also popular in
Turkey, and bikes are widely available to rent, especially in
Cappadocia. For something a little more high-powered motorcycles can
also be rented, and are ideal for exploring the beautiful costal roads
of southern Turkey. Taking a boat trip is also something that many
people enjoy whilst visiting Turkey, and the famous `Blue Voyages` from
Bodrum, Marmaris and Alanya and particularly stunning. Additionally, white-water
rafting, a variety of watersports, and scuba diving, can all be enjoyed
on Turkey`s southern coast, as well as paragliding, skydiving, and
hot-air ballooning. For something really unusual (to a typically hot
country at least), Turkey even offers the opportunity to enjoy a spot
of skiing!
For those interested in enjoying activities that are specific to Turkey
and in doing so learning a little more about Turkish culture, there are
a number of things that every visitor to the country should try at
least once. After a hard day`s sunbathing, many people enjoy a Turkish
bath (Hamam) to relax and unwind, and then go on to enjoy Turkey`s
inexpensive though unbelievably delicious food, served in traditional
restaurants and teahouses. The Turkish Bazaars are also something not
to be missed, and can be a great place to pick up traditional Turkish
souvenirs such as a Turkish rug. With so many great www.dealchecker.co.uk/real-deals.html travel
deals available, a trip to Turkey is inexpensive, though will
undoubtedly prove to be the holiday of a lifetime.
