The five best Football Clubs in Istanbul

Besiktas FC

This old club is located in Istanbul, where it has a training ground and a stadium - right next to the sumptuous Dolmabahce Palace of the sultans. There, on the waterfront of the Bosphorus, you will see many vendors with favours of the club. Besiktas is not only a football club but also basketball, handball, volleyball... The "Black and Whites" (these are the colors of the team) became the champions of Turkey thirteen times. They were not so lucky with European Cup and have not progressed beyond the quarter finals.

Fenerbahce FC

This club has more than a hundred years' history. Founded in 1907, Fenerbahce FC has taught the Turks to love football, which is so popular in this country. The first official champions of Turkey, Fenerbahce have won more than half the national championships. The club have also won the trophy of Istanbul nearly two dozen times and took part in the quarterfinals of the European Cup. An estimated total cost of Fenerbahce FC is several hundred million dollars.

Galatasaray FC

This is also a very old club. It was formed in 1905, during the initiation of Turkish football. It was started by the students of Galatasaray school (hence the name of the club). In addition to successes in the Cup of the country (this club became the champion of Turkey more than once), Galatasaray have also been succesful in European competitions. This, incidentally, distinguishes it from other Turkish football clubs. In 2000, Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup and beat Arsenal FC. During the UEFA Super Cup Galatasaray managed to beat undoubtedly the stronger team, Real Madrid.

Manisaspor FC

An ambitious newcomer to the Turkish  Football League, Manisaspor was founded in 1931. It played well at the regional level but during the Second World War disappeared because of financial problems. Twenty years later, the newly launched club began to function again but achieved little success. In early 2000, the sponsors drew attention to the team. For four years the team broke into the Super League and became a rival for its leaders.

Bursaspor FC

A team that plays in a city at the foot of Uludag mountain resort, Bursaspor FC has a green flag with five stars. Being small and not very rich, this club however has its own stadium for nearly 20 thousand spectators and regularly achieves success in the Turkish championship. The players' kit of Bursaspor FC is also green and hence they are called "Crocodiles". But "Crocodiles" are not offended at all - they finally took part in the major league of Turkish championship.
